For those unfamiliar with the lunatic ravings of Carey Mercer prepare for a cozy introduction. For those familiar with Frog Eyes, Blackout Beach et al prepare to relish in these majestic recordings.

This dude is the bassist fromt Real Estate, who rocked the Biltmore last night. I have this album at home on vinyl but just got the MP3 version today!
Alex Bleeker and the Freaks include members of Real Estate and Underwater Peoples darling Julian Lynch who shreds a solo in just about every song on the album. Bleeker is the guitarist and principle song writer. Cool record! Here he is covering the band Mountain Man, it’s real nice!
Alex Bleeker and The Freaks – Animal Tracks
I think he may also have one of the best songs off Real Estates new record Days. Really vibing hard on all this stuff these days (lol).

Was cruising the Constellation records website when I came upon this gem. The new SISKIYOU album streaming in full! (not to mention the rest of the constellation catalog!!) Fine frontier folk from ex-members of Great Lake Swimmers.

This album is super chill and spacey. 936 is really vibing good with me right now..

Sandro Perri’s music is a mix of hushed acoustic songwriting, interesting instrumentation, and heart. Cruise over to the Constellation Records page to stream the new album and check out these tracks from 2007′s Tiny Mirrors.
I think at this point it’s safe to say that Thee Oh Sees are my favourite band. I’ve spent countless hours and hard earned dollars hunting around vancouver for every last record they’ve released. I’ve been punch and pushed in the wild dance party that one of their shows creates. They continue to put out records almost twice a year, strictly on vinyl and tape (awesome). The sound The oh sees can create on each record, which is usually recorded live off the floor is incredible. I picked up this double LP of The Oh See’s Singles and Rarities at Record Store Day this year, and it’s taken me awhile to get into it, but it’s now on heavy rotation on the turn table.
Here is two tracks The Oh See’s recorded with Aaron Aites of the band Iran. Aites also made this film Until The Light Takes Us which is a Black Metal documentry I’ve watched about 4 times this week as research for a column I’m currently writing for the Capilano Courier (weird). The songs are written by Aites and the tone is much more laid back, reminiscent of The Oh See’s mostly acoustic record The Hounds of Foggy Notion.
Thee Oh See’s ft Aaron Aites – Hey Buddy
Thee Oh See’s ft Arron Aites – Comas
and becasue I’m feeling really good today, a really awesome cut from The Hounds Of Foggy Notion, Block of Ice which was originally recorded for the album The Masters Bedroom Is Good To Spend the Night In, a masterpiece.
fuck yeah!
