Ty Segall Singles 2007-2010:

November 23rd, 2011

San Fran garage psych rocker Ty Segall put out a sweet record this year, it’s the one with the basset hound on the cover called Goodbye Bread. Segall’s music is pretty great, a mix of some of my favourite groups like Thee Oh Sees and Jay Retard (rip). A collection of his singled from 2007 to 2010 has been released to rave reviews, and thats fine, because it’s great! Most songs clock in at a minute and a half with the entire 25 song record lasting only one hour! here’s three tracks to dig on.

Ty Segall – Booksmarts

Ty Segall – Happy Creeps

Pat Jordache:

November 22nd, 2011

Rob said this guy plays bass for tuneyards. i dont know if that’s true or not but he certainly is touring with her right now. Sad I missed their set at the biltmore on saturday, oh well go to see Wu Lyf instead so I can’t complain. Anyways this Pat Jordache record is really fucking cool. He has a very distinctive sound. It’s akin to what would be a poppy version of Women or a lopsided Interpol. From the get go Future Songs sounds like a marry go round of indie hooks and odd ball crooner vocal stylings. Love it! Wont be missing Pat Jordache next time he comes through vancouver that’s for sure.

King Krule:

November 20th, 2011

mann I wish I was this talented before I could grow a mustache. London Englands King Krule has the soul of a musician twice his age and hopefully the EP he just released just a precursor to some seriously good tunes to come. If you listen to this song without looking at his weird ginger face this could be one of the best songs of the year. Deep and smooth vocals with incredibly catchy and diverse instrumentation. Chill wave for jazz musicians. Kind of wish King Krule had stayed “mysterious” like The Weeknd, young indie superstars who look weird preforming on stage because they can’t drink yet. Oh well, the music’s good so let’s all chill out and dig this stuff. Honestly I’m just jealous, no offence King Krule.

Bry Webb’s Provider

November 18th, 2011

Holy shit, when I found out that Bry Webb, Constantines front man extrodinaire, was putting out a solo disc I jumped with unecumberable joy!  On Provider the softer side of Webb’s songwriting shines like the slow jam gems of Constantines records of old; however, this time round a host of fantastic players back Bry, lining these subdued folk gems with a beauty hard to describe, you’re better off having a listen.

BADBADNOTGOOD x Tyler, The Creator

November 18th, 2011

Tyler, The Creator teams up with BADBADNOTGOOD and lays down ‘Seven’ live in Toronto. Sick.

Youth Lagoon

November 18th, 2011

Youth Lagoon is the reverb-drenched bedroom recordings of one Trevor Powers. With lyrics reading like pages ripped from a diary, Trevor swirls together guitar, distant electric piano, and dreamy vocals to create a mixture sweet enough to make even Paula Deen shiver. Glo-fi for snowy days.

Youth Lagoon – Cannons

Youth Lagoon – Afternoon

Youth Lagoon – Montana

Snowday:

November 18th, 2011

Fuck snow, its cold and wet and sad. Although it does look pretty on the ground…EFF IT. I want to be warm. This tune is sure to warm your bones.

Wet Illustrated:

November 17th, 2011

Bay Area indie rockers Wet Illustrated released their new LP entitled 1x1x1 on October 25th this year. The music is related to jingly indie rockers like Guided by Voices, maybe a bit happier. They dont stray too far from the tried and true sound of garage indie but some tracks like Satellite Kids have a weird angular hook layered underneath all that reverb. Been trying to find a leak of this forever and failed until know so please, reap the rewards of my uncountable hours spent on the internet mindlessnessly typing “1x1x1 rar” into google.

Wet Illustrated – Born Stoked

Wet Illustrated – Satellite Kids

The Walkmen reissue:

November 16th, 2011

Read about a reissue of the The Walkmens first album Everyone Who Pretends To Like Me Is Gone. First released in 2002 this gem of a record tied in so well the neo-indie along side The Stokes. Kind of forgot how amazing this record is. Definitely listening to it a lot right now. <3 you Walkmen, you rule.

Chelsea Wolfe:

November 13th, 2011

your walking through a deep dark wood. the air is smoke and the group is moving beneath your feet. Chelsea Wolfe scores your terrestrial voyage through a gothic landscape. Really interesting tone on this track. Post-apocalyptic folk music…I think I need the comfort of a mothers voice after listening to this song…
