mann I wish I was this talented before I could grow a mustache. London Englands King Krule has the soul of a musician twice his age and hopefully the EP he just released just a precursor to some seriously good tunes to come. If you listen to this song without looking at his weird ginger face this could be one of the best songs of the year. Deep and smooth vocals with incredibly catchy and diverse instrumentation. Chill wave for jazz musicians. Kind of wish King Krule had stayed “mysterious” like The Weeknd, young indie superstars who look weird preforming on stage because they can’t drink yet. Oh well, the music’s good so let’s all chill out and dig this stuff. Honestly I’m just jealous, no offence King Krule.
Holy shit, when I found out that Bry Webb, Constantines front man extrodinaire, was putting out a solo disc I jumped with unecumberable joy! On Provider the softer side of Webb’s songwriting shines like the slow jam gems of Constantines records of old; however, this time round a host of fantastic players back Bry, lining these subdued folk gems with a beauty hard to describe, you’re better off having a listen.
Youth Lagoon is the reverb-drenched bedroom recordings of one Trevor Powers. With lyrics reading like pages ripped from a diary, Trevor swirls together guitar, distant electric piano, and dreamy vocals to create a mixture sweet enough to make even Paula Deen shiver. Glo-fi for snowy days.
Bay Area indie rockers Wet Illustrated released their new LP entitled 1x1x1 on October 25th this year. The music is related to jingly indie rockers like Guided by Voices, maybe a bit happier. They dont stray too far from the tried and true sound of garage indie but some tracks like Satellite Kids have a weird angular hook layered underneath all that reverb. Been trying to find a leak of this forever and failed until know so please, reap the rewards of my uncountable hours spent on the internet mindlessnessly typing “1x1x1 rar” into google.
Read about a reissue of the The Walkmens first album Everyone Who Pretends To Like Me Is Gone. First released in 2002 this gem of a record tied in so well the neo-indie along side The Stokes. Kind of forgot how amazing this record is. Definitely listening to it a lot right now. <3 you Walkmen, you rule.
your walking through a deep dark wood. the air is smoke and the group is moving beneath your feet. Chelsea Wolfe scores your terrestrial voyage through a gothic landscape. Really interesting tone on this track. Post-apocalyptic folk music…I think I need the comfort of a mothers voice after listening to this song…
For those unfamiliar with the lunatic ravings of Carey Mercer prepare for a cozy introduction. For those familiar with Frog Eyes, Blackout Beach et al prepare to relish in these majestic recordings.
