I can’t believe I’ve never talked about this guy before. Sean Nicholas Savage has been on my radar for a few years now. His first record Spread Free Like A Butterfly is a folk-pop gem, Mutual Feelings of Respect and Admiration is a strange and sexy disco master piece, and now there is Flamingo a mix of the two. Savage hails from Alberta but never seems to stay in one place long. An extended absence from the scene and possible reality prior to the recording of Mutual Feelings seemed to change Savages take on music writing. Although his distinct falsetto and frail vocal delivery never changes from record to record the song writing has improved ten fold in the last three years. A sort of Canadian Ariel Pink, Savage captures a sound that could easily have been something your parents slow danced to at before conceiving you on a dirty mattress in the mid 80′s. Here are three tracks in order of release to enjoy.

San Franciscos Terry Malts start this track sounding like a grade 10 cover band but what emerges is an infectious post-punk romp with one of the catchiest vocal melodies I’ve heard in awhile. “Bah Bah Bah Bah, tumble down…”

man spell check does not want me to spell Diarrhea…. total gross out band name aside Diarrhea Planet actually rules! I discovered these guys because I started following Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus on twitter and he ALWAYS talks about them…along with everything else. Their 5 track ep is a mess of trashy pop punk and overly distorted guitar rock. Really good “shit” HA! poop everywhere. Best lyric “party the shit out of myself…” I feel ya bros, it’s friday.

Underwater Peoples label superstar weirdo Julian Lynch released the record Terra this year and it sure flew under a lot of peoples radars it would seem. Some may be familiar with Lynchs work as an experimental psych artist from the U.P record samplers, he’s the one with all the saxophones. Anyways Terra is definitely worth a listen. The music is abstract and moody. Ambient pop which ventures beyond the threshold of normality. So take a dip in the ether and open your mind to eternal awareness. It gets pretty weird on Terra.
