AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHH!

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

The stupid internet gods have gone and screwed us again. For some reason, which I would presume to be some sort of e-voodoo, we are currently unable to post any music or pictures. I know right? Lame. Hopefully we will be able to rectify the problem soon by finding whoever or whatever it is that has felt the need to curse us, and utterly destroying it.  We will probably send it into oblivion using these totally awesome laser swords I just got at the Richmond night market. BOOYA!

You better watch out buddy, we are coming for you.

UPDATE: We are back up-and-running. So we can go back to posting regularly again! TAKE THAT INTERNET

Oh No! Yoko:

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

These bro’s played our awesome Go Your Own Waste BBQ a few weeks ago and have just released a free song entitled 90′s Kids which can bedownloaded for free here! For a bunch of high school kids from Abbotsford this song rips harder than most seasoned indie veterans you hear these days. Quick and witty references, catchy hooks and bang bang bangin’ drums make this track addictive, like sour keys in the sun. Can’t get enough! Check the song below, as well as a live video shot at our BBQ of a song I called Lake, you can see us grillin’ in the background if you look close enough. BADASS!

Two New Arcade Fire Tracks:

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Holy shit, two new Arcade Fire tracks have finally arrived here at Bluegrassish. If you’ve been following this hype storm the internet has been blowing up with these songs. All the fantastic elements of Arcade Fire are still present, huge sounding indie rock master pieces. Win Butler still sounds as good as ever. A definite continuation of Neon Bible. I am seriously counting down the days till August 3rd when the the newest Arcade Fire album The Suburbs drops officially in the U.S and Canada

Coconot:

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

After posting on El Guincho the other day I just had to do some research into this mans musical past. Turns out I really missed the boat on this guy. Emerging in what I guess was 2008 these Spanish dirt-bags lay down some heavy AnCo influenced jams. More like a quirky cousin to Merriweathers proudest sons, the songs are crazy loop based tribal dance parties wrapped within an outer husky of dusty Mediterranean flow. Pablo Diaz-Rexia of both Coconot and El Guincho must be some sort of serious dude to make such next level shit like this, I can feel the maracas in my bones. In perfect time for summer I highly suggest running to your nearest record store or itunes infused computer and picking up Coconot’s Cosa Astral or El Gunicho’s Alegranza!. Check out the two Coconot songs below and a special El Guincho track as my special treat for you!

Joggers…

I love Scotland!!

Besides the many great things that have come from there, nobody can drink like em’ and nobody can understand em’ – the scottish just ooze cool, to me at least…. well for the longest time I thought that the JOGGERS were from there… but they’re not.

They are actually from Portland, Oregon aka the City Of Bdriges…aka “Math-Rock Mecca”

Joggers have been around since around 2000 and are label-mates with one of my personal favourites French Kicks . Joggers are one part jangly math rock and two parts harmony driven indie-groove-soul-funk-folk rock… take a listen and if you like them, hit up their myspace and tell them so… or drive down to Portland to see the mystical Joggers and tell ‘em bluegrassish sent ya!

the band who bathes together stays together

Wicked Light Sleeper – Joggers

Best Lyric(s) –
…speak, speak in pitch,
wicked light sleep, no magic trick! no burning bridge!
no rabbit kit could build these
graves, in the sky,
burning bright bliss on the skin of your
eye, little priss, right church wrong pew if your selling
your favorite understanding…

Night Of The Horsepills – Joggers

Best Lyric(s) –
i’ll play the listening doctor, righted by the rube,
you play the unkempt nurse, where lighting’s confused
they tangle antlers over all you said you think you could do
which tangled up mine too, but i’ll be back next year,
with a cape and a cane, and my frail restraints
first the actors, then brokers, last the ad-men lose disdain
you got off early, from where ever you’d been
one single flaw, and we’re back at the beginning…

El Guincho:

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Dont know too much about El Guincho. Word on the street is he sounds a lot like Panda Bear. Apperently he is releasing a series of reworked Latin standards this year on Young Turks Records. The first of which will be availbile on July 11th. Really digging these light tropical vibes, like if Noah Lennox hung around outside a burrito stand in Rio De Janeiro . Maybe its time to lick a frog or too, am I right!? Click on the nifty player to stream the whole album, which can be bought on itunes or on limited vinyl release next month.
